Winter 2004/2005
Once again we don't have a lot to report, since we're just stationary in Mesa Arizona again this winter.
As usual, we're not taking time to do any sight-seeing, just falling into our normal routine. Connie is in the
Song Birds (women's chorus) and keeping busy with that. I've starting playing Table Tennis at least 5 days a week,
so at least I'm getting some exercise this year.
Block party
The street we're staying on in the park is "V" street. It actually forms a couple loops, so it's like a whole block and then some,
about 130 spaces. Several of the people here organized a party on Valentine's day (get it? -- 'V' street = Valentine's day...).
It was a huge success. We had it outside by the pool, and the turnout was almost too much for the space. (Next year they'll let us
have the banquet hall for the party -- I guess it helps to have the park manager and several staff on the same street with us! :-)
Here are a couple photos of the crowd:
(Click photos to enlarge)
One of the main attractions was a chocolate fountain -- a continuous stream of melted Belgian chocolate, and assorted treats to hold
under the chocolate for a nice coating. Like a new-age fondue.
50's Parade
This year's theme for the annual parade was "The 50's". Connie was in the parade with the Song Birds group.
Of course there were plenty of Elvi (Elvises?), a couple 50's automobiles, and other reminders of the 50's like poodle skirts, bobby socks
and Brylcream.
Connie did some dancing before the parade started, and then Uncle Sam and a Canadian Mounty started off the parade as usual.
(Actually it looks like Mickey Mouse is in the lead, or at least a golf cart dressed up as Mickey).
And a nice 50's auto for the Grand Marshals...
Golf carts were decorated many different ways...
Juke boxes were a popular theme...
Poodles, a soda jerk and Elvis...(and can you spot the "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeky Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" in the second photo?)
The homecoming queen...
Whoops! Take a closer look at the "queen" !
Saskatchewan, Canada is celebrating its centenial this year, and there are plenty of Saskatchewanians here. They managed to
justify being in the "50's" parade by saying that it's a couple of 50's (50 + 50 = 100 years)...and they gave a good show with a
lively band in a trailer...
Finally, here come the Song Birds, with Connie riding a decorated tricycle...
