May-June 2003
Our project at Lake Havasu took longer than anticipated, so we were there for 2 months. Since it was for business,
we didn't get a chance to do much sightseeing.
Although it's hot here in the summer (it is the desert after all), people like it hot
when they're on the lake -- the place was constantly packed with people (and boats, and jet-skis).
One could certainly have some fun with the right toys.

Personally I just enjoyed viewing the surrounding landscape,
which I never got tired of.
(They may be "just rocks" to you -- but to a guy from Kansas, they're awesome mountains!)
We did get to see one "sight" while we were there, and that's the famous London Bridge in Lake Havasu City.
Below the bridge is a neat promenade with shops, boat rides, and places to relax.
I don't know the
full details, but apparently the whole city was planned and promoted by Mr. McCulloch, the one known for chain saws.
Previously the only thing there was an abandoned military air strip. He brought the London Bridge over and rebuilt it on dry land,
then dug a channel from the lake under the bridge, creating an island in the process. He also managed to get a major
highway routed through the town, and now the town is booming. Besides the bridge being a tourist attraction, it seems to be a major
party place. There are also a lot of really big homes in the hills around the town, with million-dollar views of the lake and
mountains.
I guess one could say that the Parker Dam is a sight too -- rather small as dams go, but if you like that sort of thing...
...and since the "town" of Parker Dam was the nearest town to where we stayed, we frequently had to visit the Dam Post Office..

Now we're finally headed up north for the summer, planning some stops in Oregon and Washington.
That's all for now!
